Ashley Buchanan

President / Chief Executive Officer Designate and Director

Mr. Buchanan is President and Chief Executive Officer Designate and serves on its Board of Directors. Prior to joining The Michaels Companies, Mr. Buchanan joined Walmart in 2007 and served in various roles of increased leadership and responsibility across the company. Most recently he was Chief Merchant for Walmart U.S. eCommerce.  Prior to joining the U.S. eCommerce team, he was the Chief Merchant at Sam’s Club where he led a merchandising team and oversaw activities including assortment, private brand strategy, pricing, global sourcing, packaging, replenishment and supply chain. He also previously served in a broad set of senior merchandising roles at Walmart. Buchanan joined Walmart from Dell where he held a variety of positions in finance, after spending five years at Accenture focused on the retail industry. 

Mark Cosby

Chief Executive Officer and Director

Mr. Cosby is Chief Executive Officer of Michaels and serves on its Board of Directors. Before becoming Chief Executive Officer on October 21, 2019, Cosby had served as interim CEO since February 2019, when he also joined the Board. Prior to joining The Michaels Companies, Mr. Cosby served as President, North America for Office Depot from July 2014 until December 2016. From September 2011 to November 2013, Mr. Cosby served as President, Retail at CVS Caremark Corporation, where he was responsible for all aspects of the $65 billion retail business, including 7,600 retail stores, 19 distribution centers, retail merchandising, supply chain, marketing, real estate and store pharmacy operations. Prior to CVS, Mr. Cosby spent five years at Macy's, Inc., where he served in a number of executive roles, including President, Stores from April 2009 to August 2011. Prior to Macy's, Inc., Mr. Cosby served as President, Full-line Stores at Sears, Roebuck & Company and chief operating officer and chief development officer at YUM! Brands, Inc. Mr. Cosby serves on the Board of Directors of 2nd Swing, a specialty retailer and online seller of new and used golf equipment and accessories, and is active in the community, supporting the Massachusetts General Hospital, The Joe Andruzzi Foundation and Wounded Warrior Project.

Vidya Jwala

Chief Customer Officer

Jwala comes to Michaels from Dick’s Sporting Goods, where he was the Chief eCommerce and Supply Chain Officer. In that role, he oversaw the company’s Omni channel integration of eCommerce and supply chain efforts. While there Jwala was instrumental in accelerating the company’s eCommerce business as well improving the digital experience and loyalty for their customers through content, pricing, assortment, and convenience. Prior to Dick's Sporting Goods, he served as SVP of Merchandising, Supply Chain, Technology & Customer Service at, where he was responsible for growing the organization's business along with the overall vendor-engagement program and private label brands. Previously, he was VP of Merchandising & Operations at Walmart Stores, Inc. Throughout his career, Jwala held a variety of leadership roles at retailers, including Tractor Supply Company and JoAnn Stores Inc.

Scott Lindblom

Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer

As EVP – CIO, Lindblom is responsible for all IT areas throughout Michaels including the development and implementation of technologies to enhance Michaels ability to serve business partners and customers in addition to overseeing the Michaels IT initiatives roadmap. Lindblom has been with Michaels for 5 years, most recently serving as Senior Vice President – CIO. Prior to joining Michaels, Lindblom held several IT leadership roles at Ross Stores and Best Buy. Lindblom was named a finalist for the Dallas CIO Leadership Association’s 2019 CIO of the Year ORBIE Award, which honors chief information officers in North Texas who have demonstrated excellence in technology leadership.

Denise A. Paulonis

Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

Ms. Paulonis was named Executive Vice President - Chief Financial Officer in August 2016. Prior to becoming Chief Financial Officer, Ms. Paulonis served as Senior Vice President - Finance of the Company from November 2015 to August 2016 and Vice President - Investor Relations, Treasury and Corporate Finance from September 2014 to November 2015. Prior to joining the Company, she served in various capacities at PepsiCo, Inc. since 2009, including Vice President, Financial Planning & Analysis, Frito Lay from August 2013 to September 2014 and Vice President, Finance & Strategy, PepsiCo U.S. Sales from January 2011 to July 2013. Since May 2018, she has served as a member of the board of directors of Sally Beauty Holdings, Inc., an international specialty retailer and distributor of professional beauty supplies.

Holly Shaskey-Platek

Executive Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer

As EVP – CHRO, Shaskey-Platek is responsible for the company’s human resources operations including leadership and organizational development, culture and employee engagement, employee relations, talent management, benefits and compensation. She has been with The Michaels Companies since 2017, when she joined as Senior Vice President – Merchandise Operations and subsequently served as Senior Vice President – Human Resources. Prior to joining Michaels, she served as Senior Vice President – Merchandising, Global Sourcing and Private Brands of Family Dollar and has held leadership positions at Target Corporation as well as Evine, a multi-channel video retailer and broadcast network formally known as Shop NBC. Shaskey-Platek serves on the Dallas Chief Human Resource Officer Leadership Governing Body and was named one of Mass Market Retailers Most Influential Women of 2014.

J. Robert Koch

Executive Vice President - Stores and Development

Mr. Koch was named Executive Vice President - Stores and Development in May 2018. Prior to joining Michaels, Mr. Koch served as Executive Vice President of Business Development at Office Depot, Inc. from August 2017 to May 2018, after having served as Senior Vice President of Real Estate at Office Depot since December 2013. In his 20 years with Office Depot, he has held various key leadership positions in both Finance and Operations, including Senior Vice President, Merchandising; Senior Vice President, Real Estate, Construction and Strategy; Vice President, North American Finance; and Vice President of Financial Planning and Corporate Development. Prior to joining Office Depot in 1994, Mr. Koch held various positions in the corporate finance division of Blockbuster Entertainment.

Philo T. Pappas

Interim President - Merchandising and Supply Chain

Mr. Pappas was named Interim President - Merchandising and Supply Chain in February 2019. Mr. Pappas joined The Michaels Companies in 2009 as Executive Vice President - Merchandising and was named President - Michaels Stores Procurement in August 2017. Prior to joining Michaels, he served as Chief Merchandising Officer at Tweeter Home Entertainment Group, Inc. (a specialty consumer electronics retailer) from April 2003 to October 2008. Prior to joining Tweeter, Mr. Pappas served in various management positions at Staples, Inc. (an office supply store chain) from November 1994 to April 2003, most recently as Senior Vice President of Merchandising.
